GeoCaching
What is it? GeoCaching or Geo meaning Earth and Cache meaning Treasure...Earth Treasure! Basically you take a box and put a few things in it (notepad, pen/pencil, trinkets), hide the box and note the GPS coordinates. Post the coordinates on a web site such as http://www.geocaching.com and others will hunt for your treasure! Once you find a geocache you mark the log book inside and usually take something out and put something in...then log it on the website! We use simple trinkets like carabineers, key chains, pens, small lights, etc.
Our family has enjoyed this so much, it gets us off the couch and out into nature. The kids love seeing the wildlife and hiking and of course the hunt for the treasure.
You will need a GPS to play along...bring plenty of water with you...and remember, when you park your car mark it as a waypoint! (so you can get back to it later). We use a Garmin GPS MAP 76CS and it is a wonderful unit. Dedicated GeoCaching mode, auto-routing for in car travel, and many other great features.
Check out GeoCaching...you and your family will love it. It is definitely Quality Time!
